Bon Iver is the stage name of Justin Vernon, who hails from Eau Claire, WI. The story behind this album is pretty great: After both his band and relationship ended, he moved up to his father's remote cabin in Northern Wisconsin for 3 months to be alone and regroup. By accident he ended up writing enough songs for an album, which he later recorded demos for. A few of his friends encouraged him to release the demos instead. The self-released album took on a life of its own, eventually getting a proper indie label release and garnering tons of critical acclaim.
